Happy Friday morning everyone! Guess you all thought I’d fallen off the face of the earth, right? No, just working very, very hard and lots of hours. However, someone has been hired for our office, so my hours have dropped back to normal again and you’ll be seeing much more of me on here.
I had posted before about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. This was the way of eating we had done for 6 years that helped Ken with his ulcerative colitis. While following it, I lost 56 pounds, but once we stopped, I gained that weight all back, plus more. It is a wonderful plan for people with intestinal issues. I don’t have intestinal issues, I have food/weight issues. When I begin to limit foods (carbs, fats, etc) I begin to feel deprived and I get crazy. I was desperate to do something that would help me get this weight off. One thing I found was, that being a vegetarian allowed me to eat all the foods I love, mashed potatoes, bread…you get the picture. Instead of dealing with my food issues, I became so wrapped up in creating those foods, tricking myself, that I gained so much weight and was more miserable than ever.
My mother-in-law and I were out shopping one Saturday, and I picked up one of those “Woman’s World” magazines. I like to read the different plans they have. I set it aside (without reading it), and then that night, I woke up in the middle of the night, couldn’t get back to sleep so I came into the living room and turned on the TV. I never do that, but I did, and I heard a lady on there mention the Crack the Fat Loss Code plan that she was following. I thought that was interesting, that’s what I want to do, right?, and find a more healthful way to eat my foods, eat more intelligently. I determined I would check it out later in the day.
Well, I picked up my magazine later to read and what do you know, the plan they were talking about in it was “Crack the Fat Loss Code” the same one she had mentioned on TV. This now had become one of those things that if I didn’t check it out and I died of diabetes, obesity or high blood pressure, when I arrived at the pearly gates God would say ” what was the matter with you? I sent you the plan on TV, in a magazine, you couldn’t figure it out?”
So I began checking it out and went and bought the book. (There is a link on the left side of this page) I strongly encourage you to buy it and start reading. The things that Wendy Chant says there make so much sense, and there is a wonderful group of people online who give such support and encouragement and really help you get this plan down. That link is here. The link changes every week because there are so many posts and they don’t want the thread to be unmanageable, but it is an amazing group of people.
So, I read the book all the way through before I started. It is best to thoroughly understand the process before you start it. I’ve done it the other way, just jumped right in and failed miserably. The plan runs on an 8-week cycle. Wendy has menus for the full 8 weeks in the book. There are no restricted foods on this plan! Just a right time and place to eat them. That takes away one of the biggest obstacles for people right there. I have followed this plan to the letter.
Today I am in Week 2, Day 5 a “Carb Down” day. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you read the book. The first week on the plan I lost 10.5 pounds. I don’t think that is typical, some people have lost less, some more. Ken lost 7 pounds on this plan. Also, since beginning the plan, my morning blood sugars have dropped below 120 and they are normally in the 140 – 175 range!
I will keep you posted and let you see some of the recipes we have made since starting. I do have pictures. I’ll put them on here later today because I do have to go in to the office this morning, but I’ll be off this afternoon.
Have a wonderful day of eating,
JackieV
