4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure?
Several years ago I was trying to make teriyaki chicken wings. There must have been too much salt added to the teriyaki sauce because the wings were so salty no one could eat them. I hadn’t salted them either. We had company coming and had to throw out the chicken. Should have been a “Dah” moment for me because we just had baked acorn squash, salad and whole grain rolls and everyone loved it! The “Dah” moment was that the vegetables were so delicious, we didn’t need the chicken!

Hi Jackie,
It’s Jenny from the Recert. CPR class. I have been wanting to start eating natural/organic foods. I also have started recycling - wanting to be more environmentally friendly! You caught my attention when you mentioned the Hallelujah Acres. A few months ago I bought a book by Jordan Rubin called The Great Physician’s RX. his book has to do with the way God want us to be. As a christian myself, that caught my eye. His first chapter is Key #1 Eat to Live. His recipes are not all vegetarian/vegan. It’s all organic/natural. I have not made it very far through the book - I would say becase it’s very hard to be disciplined in your eating style when everything else is so “handy” & cheaper! It’s also hard when you don’t have someone to go through the process with. I’m not for sure how my husband would take to cutting out junk/snacks for starters. I am going to tell him your story with hope he realizes people do feel better when they eat healthy!
Thanks for your info!
Jenny B.
Jenny:
Thank you for checking out my foodblog, From Jackie Vetter’s Kitchen. It is exciting to hear from someone that is wanting to make a real change in their life.
I have heard of Jordan Rubin, in fact I bought his book “The Maker’s Diet”, and thought it was a pretty good plan. And it is, unless you are vegetarian/vegan. For me, I realized I had to take it one more step beyond natural/organic, I had to eliminate the animal protein. So, you have started your journey, enjoy it. Take it one day at a time, and please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions. If I don’t know the answer, I will find someone who does.
P.S. You can let your husband know there are many great, wonderful “natural snacks” out there, check out the No Bake Cookies and Raw Lemon Macaroons on the blog here. And, just because you are eating more natural, don’t think there isn’t “great tasting treats” to replace his junk food.
Have a great Thanksgiving and thanks again for posting.
